♥ The five people you meet in heaven
Bought this book like ages ago. Surprisingly, I had different thought everytime I read it. Just thought of sharing it with you guys. Sharing is caring ;) No worries, I'll cut-short, =)The story begins with Eddie’s 83rd birthday. He worked as a maintenance at the amusement park. Accident occurs when one of the carts breaks free from the ride and falls to the pier. Eddie jumps out of the way and tries to push a little girl out of the path of the falling cart and is killed by the coaster cart. From that point, Eddie begins his trip through heaven where he meets 5 people that have played a part in Eddie's life. From each person, he learns a lesson. People think of heaven as a paradise garden, a place where they can float on clouds and laze in rivers and mountains. But scenery without solace is meaningless.In fact,Heaven can be found in the most unlikely corners.The very first person, a man in blue.
Eddie didn't know who he is. In fact, he's only a stranger to Eddie.
During his childhood, he threw a ball across the road and the blue man nearly knocked him down while practicing his driving.
Eddie thinks this is crazy. He's totally CONFUSED. Why the death of the blue man is credited to him? IT'S UNFAIR!
"The greatest gift God can give you is to understand what happened in your life. To have it explained. It is the peace you have been searching for."
"Fairness. Fairness does not govern life and death. If it did, no good person would ever die young."
The second person, Eddie's captain in the military.
They were caught as captives and tried to escape before they were starved to death. The escape was successful and they intend to burn down the place. During the explosion, Eddie knew there's a little girl hiding in there. Eddie's captain shot his leg to stop him from saving the girl. His life were saved but he lost one of his foot. He was forced to return home. He was mad about his captain.
"Sacrifice is a part of life. It's suppose to be. It's not something to regret. It's something to aspire to. Little sacrifices. Big sacrifices."
"A man go to war. He didn't die for nothing. He sacrificed for his country, and his family knew it, and his kid brother went on to be a good soldier and a great man because he was inspired by it.""Sometimes when you sacrifice something precious, you're not really losing it. You're just passing it on to someone else."
The third person, Ruby, the owner of the amusement park.
The name of the amusement park, Ruby Pier, was named after her. Her husband spend his fortune to build it for her. Sadly, the amusement park was on fire and his husband lost everything and choose to continue his life with anger and frustration. As for Eddie, he was holding his anger towards his father. His father has been mistreated him over the years and would even abuse him when he's drunk. He never feel being loved by his father.
"Holding anger is a poison. It eats you from inside. We think that hating is a weapon that attacks the person who harmed us. But hatred is a curves blade. And the harm we do, we do to ourselves."
The forth person, Eddie's wife.
Eddie has loved her whole-heartedly for his whole life. He was depress that every of his loved ones passed away one by one before him.
"Lost love is still love. It takes a different form, that's all. You can't see their smile or bring them food or tousle their hair or move them around a dance floor. But when those senses weaken, another heightened. Memory. Memory becomes your partner. You nurture. You hold it. You dance with it."
"Life has to end, Love doesn't."
The last person, the girl, whom Eddie had her burned to death during the explosion.
She was the one who brings Eddie to heaven. The little girl hold Eddie's hands and bring him to heaven to keep him save. She told Eddie that the little girl was saved. Five people, waiting in five choosen memories, for the little girl to age and to die, and to finally have her question answered - why she lived and what she lived for. And now, that's Eddie's part to share his secrets of heaven!
